Interview with Denise Lewis

We were delighted to find out that Denise Lewis' favourite subject at school was English! She captured our hearts and minds to 'be the best' through sharing her inspirational journey. We loved listening to the story about an English teacher that inspired Denise to be aspirational.

Growing Eldon's Future Project

Our whole school community focused on 'learning together, growing together'. We used three high quality texts to engage in quality talk, reading and writing.

Our community project engaged our children in a wide range of creative and outdoor activities that had a positive on social skills and emotional well-being. By the end of the unit, the whole school community took  part in a cross-curricular STEAM project that resulted in positive action for change in our local community, through litter picking and planting a mini orchard in our local area at Eldon's Burrow. Writing for a purpose enticed many people from the wider community to support our project.

Tell Me a Dragon - Whole School Writing Project

Ahead of our grand opening of 'The Burrow' to celebrate Eldon's 135th birthday, on St George's Day, we had a whole school writing week linked to the text 'Tell Me a Dragon'. After a whole week of children being immersed in dragon themed learning, when our special day finally arrived, St. George and the Dragons were a huge hit! Children enjoyed listening to the story and touching the dragons. Photographs from the week capture the memorable experiences that the children will never forget.

National Storytelling Week

National Literacy Hero, Richard O'Neill Launches Eldon's National Storytelling Week

When Covid-19 kept us apart, the power of storytelling ensured our Eldon community stayed connected at heart. Our super storytelling community found innovative ways to celebrate National Storytelling Week in style! We had a variety of authors, poets, illustrators, local and national celebrities, a National Literacy Hero and our very own Governors, volunteers and staff to celebrate storytelling at Eldon.

Click here to take a look at the stories our community shared.

Each day we celebrated stories through different themes including: Mental Health and Well-being through stories; Maths through stories; Physical Education through stories; STEAM through stories and Digital Literacy. Take a look at our lockdown learners and their super storytelling activities at home.

Pyjamarama Day

Pyjamarama book event went very well indeed! Children attended school in their pyjamas for the day and took part in lots of exciting reading events. Money was also raised for ‘The Book Trust’ to ensure every children has access to bedtime story. Our Chair Martin, and Vice Chair of Governors, Sue, both zoomed into classes virtually to read to the children. Two of our parents and carers also did the same to surprise our children as their secret readers. Children enjoyed a relaxed day, learning, reading and having fun!
