Eldon's Curriculum
Eldon's Curriculum
At Eldon Primary School, in line with our vision 'Eldon expects the best', we offer a broad, balanced and academically rigorous curriculum for all our children with the intent of closing the gap between the advantaged and disadvantaged. Our curriculum is unapologetically ambitious for all of our children including those with SEND, in order to close the attainment gap. We value the pursuit and acquisition of powerful knowledge, and our vision and values translate into a knowledge- rich curriculum. The curriculum design is informed and driven by research regarding how memory works to ensure that children not only have access to 'the best that has been thought and said' but are taught this in a way that ensures children can remember the curriculum content in future years. The Eldon curriculum prepares our children for the opportunities and challenges of the 21st century and raises aspirations to empower our children to add to the body of knowledge in the future. Through mastery of communication, children will think, sign, speak, read and write like a historian, geographer, scientist, musician etc.
Eldon’s curriculum drivers (Enquiry, The Arts, Enterprise, and Possibilities) shape our curriculum breadth. They are derived from an exploration of the backgrounds of our pupils, our beliefs about high-quality education and our values. We use Eldon’s vehicles (Eldon’s: House, Radio Station, Racetrack, Forest, 4D Immersive Room and Eldon’s Burrow). They are used to ensure we give our pupils appropriate and ambitious curriculum opportunities which remove barriers to learning, specific to our childrens’ needs. We go above and beyond the requirements laid out in the EYFS statutory framework, and National Curriculum, giving children an extensive understanding of the world around them.
